At 55 years old, she shoulders the weight of her family’s survival, consisting of two sons, two daughters, and her husband. Tragically, the loss of her elder daughter last year cast a shadow of grief over their humble abode. Despite their modest dwelling, Kamlai, as the sole breadwinner, faces a daily battle against economic hardship. Working as a daily wage earner, she struggles to provide enough food for her family, often facing the daunting prospect of insufficient means if unable to work. The absence of proper bathroom and latrine facilities in their home adds an extra layer of discomfort, especially for her younger daughter, now married into a more prosperous family in Jawa union. The lack of such basic amenities not only causes inconvenience but also undermines their dignity.

The 2022 flood only exacerbated their already precarious situation, plunging them deeper into hardship. However, a glimmer of hope emerged in October 2023 when representatives from a benevolent organization graced their village with assistance for the underprivileged, offering support for improved sanitation. Kamlai’s heart swelled with joy as she found herself among the recipients, her determination unwavering. Throughout the process, she remained actively engaged, determined to see the project through to completion. Her cooperation proved invaluable in facilitating the installation of a much-needed latrine at her home. With a grant of BDT 16,000, Kamlai was able to turn her dreams of a hygienic latrine into reality. Before receiving the funds, she diligently attended orientation sessions on hygiene and proper latrine usage, showcasing her commitment to bettering her family’s living conditions.

The impact of the newly installed latrine was profound. Hygiene and sanitation standards soared, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and fostering overall well-being. Moreover, the restored dignity and comfort brought relief to Kamlai and her family, alleviating the discomfort endured during visits. Tensions within the household eased, replaced by a sense of harmony, as complaints related to inadequate facilities were finally addressed.
