Niha Begum (15) and regular member of Bedana Adolescent group. She is a resident of Haor-surrounded Rajendrapur village of Fatepur union in Bishwambharpur Upazila under Sunamganj district. Read in class nine at Satgawon Higher Secondary School. Niha has a poor family of 5 members. Family is dependent on the income of her daily wage laborer father as they do not have any land for cultivation except for their homestead. This is how their lives and livelihoods go. Due to the lack of land and good income opportunities, Niha’s father thought of getting Niha’s married at young age to reduce family expenses. Niha Begum told her parents that she would not get married at young age. She would study and get a job. Niha came to know through the ERA CREA project that helps girls at risk of child marriage to study. Niha told her mother about the matter. Her mother talked to the president of the women’s group to get help from the project. After the president of the women’s group confirmed the truth of the incident from the people around the house and the school, after the process of getting help from the project, she received financial assistance through a bank check of six (6000/-) taka from the Bishwambharpur police station.
With the assistance money, Niha’s father has opened a small grocery shop at home, from which he earns a fairly good income, earning an average of BDT 9,000/- per month, and with this income, he can cover the family expenses and Niha’s education.
