The “WASH in Health” project, funded by WaterAid Bangladesh and implemented by Efforts for Rural Advancement (ERA), is a targeted initiative aimed at enhancing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services within healthcare facilities in rural Bangladesh, particularly in underserved areas like Tahirpur Upazila in Sunamganj district. Recognizing the critical role of WASH in preventing healthcare-associated infections and ensuring quality patient care, the project focused on upgrading infrastructure in 45 community clinics, including the installation of safe water points, improved sanitation facilities, and handwashing stations. Additionally, the project emphasized capacity building by training healthcare staff on infection prevention and control (IPC) practices and conducting community awareness campaigns to promote hygiene behaviors. By integrating WASH improvements with health service delivery, the project aimed to create a more resilient and responsive healthcare system, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes for rural populations.
